Bad August, New Don. Set, and D-9

Wed Sep 2, 2009, 10:06 PM
Hello, all! Last month was indeed pretty crappy; if you'll forgive the exposition: My grandmother ended up in the hospital (again) for a nasty fall and is still in therapy. My current health insurance provider raised my rate by another $30/month and I had to spend a lot of time on these horrible list-everything-that-has-ever-happened-to-you forms for other providers, only to have them turn me down for pre-existing conditions. I still don't know where I'm going to find a better rate. I had two serious problems crop up with my car that had to be repaired (brakes and tires). And my printer up and died on me (I need it to print out the descriptions and references for commissions so I can have them at my drawing table as I work) so there's another $200 for the credit card. When it rains, it pours, I guess.

I wouldn't have made it without my soul mate :iconcosmic-riptide: and the ever-awesome :icongoldfox20:
Thanks, guys! You rock!

However, for those of you currently in the process of getting artwork from me (and all those still waiting for me to contact you) I offer my most sincere apologies for making you wait so long. I've spent a lot of time away from my desk this month and my productivity is shameful, but I am still getting things done one bit at a time. I'm hopeful projects will begin to move forward more quickly this month, knock on wood.

New Donation Series for September-February

The Storyteller has provided the plot for this 6 page comic series; he is the commissioner of the Max Longear and Fat Wolf comics on my site and, as could be expected, this series is a stuffing themed story. It features a cougar named Jack and his pudgy friend TJ kangaroo. There will be one line art page per month and each can be obtained for a $10 donation. Please visit: [link] for complete details. Hope you'll like it!

District 9

My fiancé took me to see this movie a short while back and it has easily and instantaneously become one of my new favorites. I wouldn't want to reprise my usual role as Captain Bringdown and rant about the evils of humanity, so I'll skip that *cough* and simply say I've fallen madly in love with these aliens. Absolutely smitten. I adore their feet and cute tentacley mouthparts….my only complaint is that there are, as of yet, no action figures. Let's get on that, Mr. Jackson! I must have a Christopher of my own….

When will there be more of this?

A word about my commissions: I get a lot of similar questions about the pictures I post here and on my site; people ask if I'm going to continue a certain comic series or take the project from line art to color in the near future. Please, read the description of the image; if it's listed as a "commission", that means someone paid me to draw it for them. I personally had nothing to do with the characters or what's happing in the picture/comic, I just drew what was described for me. If the person paid for 3 comic pages, we did 3. If they paid for line art only, that's what I did for them. I'm truly flattered that folks are so keen on these pieces, but it's not up to me in any way to make more for the set or scenario. If there is to be more added to a project, it's up to the person who bought it to commission more.

And in regard to making additions as a request instead of a commission, I regret that my financial situation will not allow me to take requests at this time. I can't even get my own projects done right now.

Aw man - I totally know how you feel on the car and printer front. My printer broke a little while ago and in quick succession I had a tyre blow out that resulted in both front tyres need replaced, then the brake pads, the brake discs, followed soon after by the indicator controls and now my clutch is about to go - and you can imagine the cost is nearing £1000 by now.
Although my health care in England is largely free I still suffer from my cancer setback and such - even if I can't do anything to help you out, know I'm right behind you at least ^..^

I actually don't know if I liked District 9. I'm still mulling it over whether I did or didn't.

But, I do agree about the aliens, they were cute, no doubts. I could see maybe NECA doing a figure, but I kind of hope we see a nice 12-14" figure from Hot Toys. It'd be expensive, but it'd be super detailed and nice.

Sorry to hear about your grandmother and, well all the other stuff too, ouch. Hopefully that'll work out.

I enjoyed the comic series you updated your site with. Well done for making such great art when you are surrounded by disasters.
